AI VIDEO DIRECTOR
Master the art of cinematography and become an AI Video Director by following these tips, tricks and prompt engineering techniques.
Kill The "AI Look."
You've learned to direct. Now learn to make it real. Capture fingerprints, contact physics, sound-first scene design, reference tokens — the advanced layer that separates "nice AI clip" from footage people ask "wait, how was this shot?" Plus the Prompt Forge: build a pro prompt in four clicks.

The "AI look" comes from footage that no physical camera could have produced — perfect exposure, perfect focus, sterile motion. The fix: specify a camera that could have existed, down to its flaws. Three ingredients, every time:
Stock & Sensor
Name the medium and it brings its whole personality — grain structure, color response, dynamic range.
"shot on 35mm Kodak stock" · "grainy 16mm reversal" · "vintage VHS-era consumer camera"Lens Behavior
Real glass bends light imperfectly. Give the lens a personality and edges soften, highlights bloom, bokeh takes a shape.
"40mm anamorphic at T2.8, oval bokeh" · "halation blooming around the practicals" · "slight lens breathing on the focus pull"The Imperfection Pass
Perfection reads as synthetic. One controlled flaw sells the whole frame as captured, not generated.
"subtle gate weave" · "handheld micro-jitter" · "autofocus hunting once before locking" · "grain dancing in the midtones"Weight Is The Tell
AI subjects float. Real bodies have mass — they compress what they touch, resist momentum, and drag their materials behind them. Write the physics and the floating stops.
Contact Points
Every touch leaves evidence. When feet, hands, and objects visibly affect surfaces, weight becomes undeniable.
"boots compress into wet gravel" · "fingers dent the leather armrest" · "the glass leaves a wet ring on the wood"Momentum & Settle
Nothing stops instantly. Bodies lean into turns, decelerate through steps, and settle after halting.
"she counter-leans into the turn" · "he takes two settling steps after the jump" · "the coat swings forward as he stops"Secondary Motion Lag
Hair, fabric, water, and dust follow the body a beat late. That lag is the single strongest realism signal in motion.
"her hair drags a beat behind each head turn" · "the scarf settles two beats after she stops" · "spray hangs, then falls"The Frame Ends. The World Doesn't.
With native audio, sound isn't decoration — it's set construction. Everything the audience hears but doesn't see becomes world the model never had to render.
Off-Screen World
Sound from outside the frame builds rooms, floors, and streets for free — and off-screen sound is scarier, funnier, and cheaper than anything on-screen.
"AUDIO: footsteps crossing the floor above, stopping directly overhead" · "a truck downshifting somewhere behind the buildings"The Sound Bridge
Let a sound start before its source appears, or outlive its shot. Bridges stitch shots into one continuous world.
"the phone starts ringing in the final second, unanswered" · "her voice continues over the next shot before we cut to her"End On A Sound
The strongest button for any clip is an audio event over a held frame — a latch, a breath, a needle drop, a silence.
"the engine cuts; three seconds of ticking metal" · "the door latch clicks in the dark" · "one held breath, then exhale"Stop Describing. Start Attaching.
Seedance 2.0's omni-reference system reads images, video, and audio as instructions. The pros describe less and attach more — every reference is a paragraph you don't have to write.
@image — Identity Lock
One clean, front-lit character reference beats three sentences of description — and survives across every shot you generate.
"@image1: keep this exact face, hair, and wardrobe in every frame"@video — Motion Transfer
Feed a clip whose camera energy or pacing you love, and borrow the movement instead of describing it.
"@video1: match this clip's gimbal pacing and turn timing, new subject and location"@audio — Voice & Tempo
An audio reference locks a voice's timbre or a track's tempo, so performance and cut rhythm follow the sound.
"@audio1: this voice delivers the dialogue line" · "@audio1: cut the action to this track's tempo"Ten Codes. Zero Overlap With Vol. I.
Name The Stock, Not The Mood
"Moody" is a wish. "Shot on 16mm, halation in the highlights" is a look the model can build.
Put A Light Source In The Frame
Visible practicals — a lamp, a sign, a fire — motivate the lighting, and motivated light reads as real.
Foreground Occlusion = Instant Depth
Put something between lens and subject — a doorframe, leaves, a shoulder. Layers kill the flat AI stage-set look.
Dirty The Air
Perfectly clear air doesn't exist on real sets. Steam, dust, drizzle, pollen — particulate gives light something to touch.
Break The Symmetry
Dead-center subjects and matching sides scream "generated." Offset the subject, unbalance the background.
Clutter Is Credibility
Real spaces are lived in. A worn edge, a coffee ring, cables, yesterday's mess — three props of clutter buy a room its history.
One Texture Close-Up Per Sequence
A single macro insert — skin, rust, fabric weave, condensation — recalibrates the audience's trust for the entire film.
Let The Subject Ignore The Camera
AI subjects pose. Real people are mid-task. Give them business to do and forbid the lens their attention.
Weather Is A Free Art Department
Rain, wind, and heat haze animate every surface in frame without a single extra instruction.
If It Looks Perfect, It Looks Fake
The master code. Every flaw you specify — grain, jitter, flare, lag, clutter — is a signature the real world leaves. Forge the signature.
Four Prompts. Four Techniques.
Single-shot, maximum-density prompts — each one demonstrating a file from above. Copy, paste, generate.
CAMERA: Handheld follow at a half-step behind, organic sway riding the deck. A weathered fisherman in yellow oilskins hauls a net hand over hand across the pitching deck of a North Sea trawler at gray dawn, boots braced against the gunwale, the horizon tilting with each swell. His gloves compress the wet rope, water wringing out with every pull; spray hangs in the work lights, then whips aft. Captured on grainy 16mm, natural overcast light, halation around the deck lamps, muted honest color, slight handheld micro-jitter. AUDIO: diesel thrum underfoot, rope creaking through the block, spray hitting oilskins, a gull tearing past the mic.
CAMERA: Static locked-off shot, dead center down a hotel corridor. An empty hotel corridor at 3 a.m., carpet pattern receding to a far door standing ajar, one wall sconce flickering at half power. Nothing in the frame moves except the flicker and a slow drift of dust through the sconce light. Low-key hard shadows, cold desaturated grade with one warm sconce accent, heavy contrast. AUDIO: off-screen — slow footsteps on the floor above crossing left to right, stopping directly overhead; the elevator arriving at the far end with a chime, doors opening, nobody stepping out; then the far door creaking one inch wider.
@image1 (character reference): keep this exact face, hairstyle, and jacket in every frame — identity locked. @video1 (motion reference): match this clip's slow gimbal push and its pacing; new subject, new location. CAMERA: Follow @video1's move exactly. The @image1 character walks the length of a rain-glazed rooftop helipad at blue hour toward an idling helicopter, coat snapping in the rotor wash, each step pressing a ring into the standing water. Anamorphic 2.39:1, deep blues with the helicopter's red beacon strobing the scene every two seconds. AUDIO: rotor wash building, coat fabric cracking, beacon relay clicking, one radio squelch.
CAMERA: Static wide shot, slightly low angle, of a boxing gym at dawn. Sunrise cuts one hard beam through the high window across an empty ring. At 0:01 a heavy bag at frame left still sways from an unseen hit, chain creaking. At 0:03 a boxer in a gray hoodie steps into the light beam, wrapping his left hand as he walks. At 0:06 he stops at the bag, steadies it with a glove. At 0:08 the first jab lands — chalk dust bursting off the bag into the sunbeam and hanging there. Shot on 35mm, warm haze, grain in the shadows. AUDIO: chain creak, wraps tightening, one sharp jab impact, dust-quiet, his slow exhale.
